Washington, D.C.- On July 22, 2024, His Excellency Ilisoni Vuidreketi, Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji to the United States, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Jackson T. Soram, FSM Ambassador to the United States. The meeting took place at the FSM Embassy in Washington D.C.
Ambassador Vuidreketi thanked Ambassador Soram for accepting the call and expressed his gratitude to meet with a fellow Pacific islander in D.C. According to Ambassador Vuidreketi, Fiji is reopening its Embassy in Washington, D.C., after a few years of absence, consistent with Fiji’s strategy to enhance its bilateral relations with the United States.
In welcoming Ambassador Vuidreketi to the Embassy, Ambassador Soram congratulated him on his appointment as the new Fiji Ambassador to the United States and offered his support to Ambassador Vuidreketi. Ambassador Soram alluded to the excellent relationship between Fiji and the FSM. He underscored the importance of collaboration among the Pacific missions in D.C., citing the various challenges often encountered in big cities such as Washington D.C.
The two Ambassadors reiterated the importance of keeping regional issues at the forefront of their engagements in D.C., on issues including air transportation, trade and commerce, and migration, among others. In terms of tourism, both agreed that the Pacific has a lot to offer given the unique cultural and geographical landmarks throughout the region.
The meeting concluded with both Ambassadors wishing the best for one another and ensuring continued collaboration among the two island nations.
Ambassador Vuidreketi was accompanied by First Secretary Eva M. Baleitilagica. Ambassador Soram received the call along with Deputy Chief of Mission, Teresa T. Filepin and staffed by First Secretary Nena L. Waguk.
