Ambassador Susaia Pays Courtesy Call on U.S. Congressman Sablan

Washington, D.C., — December 12, 2018 — Today on the U.S. Capitol Hill, Ambassador Akillino H. Susaia paid a courtesy call on the Honorable U.S Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI). Ambassador Susaia congratulated Rep. Sablan on his recent re-election to the U.S. Congress. The two discussed issues of mutual interest relating to the bilateral relations between the Federated States of Micronesia and the United States under the Compact of Free Association. They also discussed pressing regional issues that are important to the Micronesian region such as climate change. Ambassador Susaia also took the time to express appreciation for Rep. Sablan’s support to the recently passed REAL ID Act Modification for the Freely Associated States Act and expressed his wish for continued support from Rep. Sablan office on other pressing issues such as the commencing of work on the Compact beyond 2023, veterans’ affairs, health and education, and other federal programs that may require the U.S. continued support. Rep. Sablan reaffirmed his continued support to the Government and the people of the Federated States of Micronesia and looked forward to more engagement opportunities. Accompanying Ambassador Susaia in this courtesy visit with Congressman Sablan was the Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Jackson Soram.
