PALIKIR, April 20th 2021 (FSMIS)—On April 19th, 2021, His Excellency David W. Panuelo—President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)—received Bishop Julio Angkel in a courtesy call. Accompanying Bishop Angkel were former President of the FSM, Emanuel “Manny” Mori, Father Kelly Yalmadau, and Sister Christina Elias.

Bishop Angkel requested the courtesy call to discuss, among other matters, national unity and solidarity during the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the importance of children’s educations not being neglected or underserved in times of crisis. Regarding the latter, Bishop Angkel advocated for the construction of the proposed Saint Cecilia Catholic School two-story building, which the Government estimates would require approximately $1,300,000 to construct.

Former President Mori, a staunch advocate of children and one of the leading members of the team actively promoting the Saint Cecilia Catholic School project, described the project’s intended two-pronged outcomes: the improvement of the school’s overall effectiveness in administration and education performance, and much needed additional upgrades and improvements to Saint Cecilia’s infrastructure.
President Panuelo advised Bishop Angkel, Former President Mori, Father Yalmadau, and Sister Elias that the project has his enthusiastic support, and that he would work with the FSM Congress and other partners to ensure a positive outcome.
