PALIKIR, Pohnpei—On July 7th, 2021, His Excellency David W. Panuelo—President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)—received the Honorable Mekioshy William, Lieutenant Governor of the FSM State of Chuuk, for a courtesy call.
During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor William thanked President Panuelo for his assistance to the State of Chuuk, and the hospitality shown to him upon his arrival in Pohnpei State. In turn, President Panuelo updated Lieutenant Governor William on the recent goings-on in the National Government, such as his Presidential Order to create the National Tax Reform Commission, and the Nation’s statement at the ninth Pacific Island Leaders Meeting (PALM-9) with Japan. The President expressed that he fulfilled his promise to the Honorable Alexander R. Narruhn, Governor of the State of Chuuk, and the Honorable Wesley W. Simina, Speaker of the 22nd FSM Congress, to bring up the issue of oil leaks from World War II-era sunken vessels, and the subsequent request for assistance. Additionally, the President updated the Lieutenant Governor on recent discussions, programs, and activities with Australia.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with President Panuelo noting to Lieutenant Governor William that he’s invited the Governors of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae to a virtual meeting on Friday, July 9th, 2021, to discuss the Nation’s forthcoming mass vaccination plan in concert with assistance from U.S. medical professionals.
