The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia Awards Second Round of Social Protection Community Grants

 

Palikir, Pohnpei—On July 14 , 2021 the Honorable Marcus Samo—Acting Secretary of the Department of Health and Social Affairs—presented Certificates of Award to local Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) on behalf of His Excellency David W. Panuelo, President of the FSM, and the Honorable Yosiwo P. George, Vice President of the FSM. The Certificates of Award represent the second round of the FSM Social Protection programming’s community-basedCOVID-19 awareness grant.

Citizens will recall that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is generously providing 14 million dollars ($14,000,000) for the purpose of the FSM’s Social Protection programming. Of this amount, two million dollars ($2,000,000) are allocated for assisting NGOs and community groups. The community-based COVID-19 awareness grant is intended to strengthen awareness of COVID-19, inclusive of education on handwashing and social distancing, distribution of soaps, masks, and informational materials, and piloting a gender-based violence hotline in Pohnpei State.

The Chuuk High School received an award of $40,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Chukich Organization received an award of $50,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Kuchuwa Youth Organization received an award of $50,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Kuttu Youth Group received an award of $49,940.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

 

The Lekinioch Youth Association received an award of $49,863.00 to support their efforts in

COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Namoluk Youth Association received an award of $48,800.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Peniesene Pwipwi Youth Association an award of $33,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Utwe Youth Group an award of $47,200.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Woleai Atoll Development Authority received an award of $27,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Lien Alem of Pohnpei received an award of $49,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

The Pohnpei Women’s Council received an award of $42,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID- 19 prevention activities.

The Pohnpei Consumer Organization an award of received $50,000.00 to support their efforts in COVID-19 prevention activities.

Acting Secretary Samo reiterated his remarks from the first round of awards, and said to this new group of recipients “each of you submitted the applications and fulfilled the criteria we required; you were selected because of what you submitted.”

Mrs. Emiliana Musrasrik-Carl, who represented all the recipients, thanked Acting Secretary Samo, President Panuelo, and ADB for their assistance and support to local NGOs.

Attending the ceremony were Reverend Tepster Paul, President of United Church of Christ Pohnpei (UCCP), Reverend Midion G. Neth, Secretary General, UCCP, Mrs. Emiliana Musrasrik-Carl, President of Pohnpei Women’s Council, the Honorable Acting Secretary Marcus Samo, Mr. Dionis Saimon, Acting Assistant Secretary for the Division of Health, Mr. Stuard Penias, Acting Assistant Secretary for the Division of Social Affairs, Mr. Erick Paul, Assistant Secretary of Finance and Administration, and the Honorable Mayor Kipier Lipwe who was joining online along with the other participants from Chuuk, Yap, and Kosrae.
