Washington, D.C.- The FSM Embassy was among other Pacific embassies invited by the United States Congressional Pacific Islands Caucus to the Caucus’ End of Year reception held on December 05, 2024. The Pacific Caucus is an official U.S. House of Representative bipartisan member organization. Established as a House congressional organization in 2019, it lists among its objectives the need to serve as a resource to its congressional members and staff on the importance of the Pacific Islands, to demonstrate the U.S. commitment to the Indo-Pacific region, to facilitate communication and cooperation on shared interest between the U.S. and the Pacific Islands, and to assist in formulating sound policies in the Indo-Pacific region.
The event was held at Capitol Hill at the Rayburn House to celebrate the relationship between the U.S. and the Pacific Islands, providing an opportunity to bring together members of the Diplomatic Corps, U.S. State Department officials, and congressional members. It was a good opportunity to foster and strengthen collaboration and support for the Pacific region.
In his capacity as Co-Chair of the Caucus, Congressman Ed Case of Hawaii’s remarks highlighted the past year’s efforts and how the collaborations have helped close the gap between the U.S. Government and its allies and partners. He further expressed the need to continue following the Road Map for the Pacific Island Caucus as it will position the Caucus well for the next Congress. Congressman Case then closed his remarks by thanking everyone present at the event.
With Ambassador Soram away on travel duties, Deputy Chief of Mission Teresa Filepin led the Embassy’s participation at the event along with the two First Secretaries, Mr. Raleigh Welly and Nena Waguk.
